Wednesday 12th October this year is an important day in the country’s musical calendar, marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Supported generously by the RVW Trust, the MTA commissioned teaching resources from EYFS to KS5, which you can find on our website at http://www.musicteachers.org/rvw150/. Our thanks to Imelda Shirley, Rebecca Berkley, Karen Marshall, Liz Dunbar, Oli Tarney, Mark Keith, Steven Berryman and Jonathan Clinch for these superb resources, and a very special thanks to Rachel Bowron of the RVW Trust for her invaluable help in steering this project.
The impetus behind the commissions has been to ensure that children of all ages and across all settings are able to experience Vaughan Williams’s music as part of the taught curriculum – we want this 150th anniversary year to be a catalyst to ensure that works such as The Wasps Overture, Sinfonia Antartica, the Fantastia on a theme of Thomas Tallis, The Lark Ascending, On Wenlock Edge and his remarkable arrangements of English Folk Song become an integral part of children’s music education.
Please spread the word far and wide about these tremendous resources, and let us know that you’re using them – use the hashtag #RVW150 if posting on social media!
